Date  27th ANNUAL NATIONAL CONVENTION & BUSINESS EXPO
The 27th Annual National Convention & Business Expo which took place in Philadelphia, PA, September 19-23, 2006 proved to be extremely successful. Kicking off the weeks festivities was the 6th Annual FedEx-USHCC Foundation Golf Classic. Over 150 golfers hit the greens of the Brandywine Country Club to raise money for the USHCC Foundation’s Latino Youth Entrepreneurship Program.

National BizFest Winners

Last April the USHCC Foundation announced 20 new technology projects that led to the development of centers throughout the United States that are community-based and focused on small business incubation. The Brooklyn Kings County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was one of the recipients that were selected to receive a grant of $18, 500.00. Through the initial grant funded by the AT&T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT&T Inc., the Brooklyn Kings County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has since leveraged a total of $42,000.00. Date  USHCC Foundation Partner with Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)

At the 27th Annual Convention, Ronald Langston, National Director, MBDA joined USHCC Foundation President & CEO, Frank Lopez and USHCC Foundation Chairman, Massey Villarreal at a press conference to announce a strategic partnership between the USHCC Foundation and MBDA. This partnership will focus on education, social services and business enterprise research for Hispanic businesses. Through the partnership the USHCC Foundation and MBDA will develop and analyze economic data and identify procurement opportunities for the nation’s 1.6 million Hispanic businesses.

The Hurricane Contracting Information Center provides a central point of reference for businesses, especially minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses and small- and medium-size enterprises, to register for and become aware of federal contracting opportunities in the Gulf Coast. While the HCIC does not award contracts, their mission is to ensure that businesses understand the process and are aware when opportunities become available.

 Technology Corner Top
Earlier this year the USHCC Foundation launched USHCC Foundation TV an online TV and video on demand channel. Since the launch of the channel, the USHCC Foundation has been able to provide value to the USHCC network by streaming and live web casting activities and events on different channels. Through these channels viewers can view content on a variety of topics including 2006 Convention, BizFest, Legislative Conference and Strategic Policy.
